Abstract
The treatment of cancer continues to be a major challenge in the field of medicine. Conventional cancer therapies such as chemotherapy and radiation often come with significant side effects and limitations in targeting cancer cells specifically. Therefore, the development of novel drug delivery systems for targeted cancer therapy has emerged as a promising approach to improve treatment outcomes and reduce adverse effects. This thesis focuses on the design, development, and evaluation of a novel drug delivery system for targeted cancer therapy. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, including the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definitions of key terms. The chapter sets the foundation for understanding the importance of developing targeted drug delivery systems for cancer treatment. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review that covers ten key aspects related to drug delivery systems, cancer therapy, targeted drug delivery, nanotechnology, and current advancements in the field. This review lays the groundwork for the research methodology and provides insights into the existing knowledge gaps that this thesis aims to address. Chapter Three details the research methodology employed in this study, including the design of the drug delivery system, synthesis of the drug carriers, encapsulation of anticancer drugs, characterization techniques, in vitro and in vivo evaluation methods, and data analysis procedures. The chapter outlines the experimental approach taken to develop and test the novel drug delivery system. Chapter Four discusses the findings of the research, including the efficacy of the developed drug delivery system in delivering anticancer drugs to target cancer cells, the cytotoxicity profile of the system, the cellular uptake mechanism, and the in vivo therapeutic efficacy in animal models.
