Thesis Abstract
The rapid proliferation of digital learning tools within higher education institutions has significantly transformed pedagogical approaches, yet their impact on the development of essential business skills remains insufficiently explored. This study investigates the extent to which digital learning tools influence the acquisition and enhancement of business skills among university students enrolled in business-related programs. The primary aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of digital tools such as online simulations, interactive modules, and virtual collaboration platforms in fostering competencies like critical thinking, decision-making, communication, and entrepreneurial skills. To achieve this, the study adopts a mixed-methods research design, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches to provide a comprehensive understanding of the phenomena. The population comprises 1,200 final-year undergraduate students enrolled in business faculties across five universities within a metropolitan region. A stratified random sampling technique is used to select 300 participants, ensuring proportional representation across faculties and academic years. Quantitative data are collected through structured questionnaires validated for content and construct validity, with reliability established via Cronbach’s alpha coefficients exceeding 0.80. The questionnaire measures students’ engagement with digital learning tools and self-assessed business skill proficiency levels. Qualitative data are gathered through semi-structured interviews with 20 selected students and 10 business educators, focusing on their perceptions of digital tools’ efficacy and contextual challenges. Data analysis employs descriptive statistics to profile participants and inferential techniques such as multiple regression analysis to determine the relationship between digital learning tool usage and business skill development. Hierarchical regression models control for demographic variables and prior academic performance. Thematic analysis is applied to qualitative interview transcripts to extract recurring themes and nuanced insights. The study grounds its theoretical framework on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory, facilitating an understanding of both user acceptance and experiential learning processes facilitated by digital tools. Expected findings suggest a positive correlation between the integration of digital learning tools and enhanced business skills, particularly in areas requiring critical thinking and problem-solving. The study anticipates that active engagement with online simulations and collaborative platforms significantly predicts improvements in practical decision-making abilities. Qualitative insights are expected to highlight pedagogical benefits, such as increased student engagement and autonomy, alongside barriers like technological infrastructural challenges and digital literacy deficits. This research contributes novel empirical evidence to the discourse on digital pedagogy in business education, bridging the gap between technology adoption and measurable skill outcomes. It offers a theoretical extension of TAM and Experiential Learning Theory within a higher education context, emphasizing their applicability to digital skills development. The findings provide policymakers and educators with actionable insights on designing and implementing effective digital learning strategies to nurture industry-relevant business competencies. The main conclusion underscores the importance of integrating diverse digital tools into curricula to foster practical business skills, advocating for ongoing faculty training and infrastructural enhancements. Recommendations include the development of student-centered digital modules, investment in reliable technological infrastructure, and continuous assessment of digital tool efficacy. Future research should explore longitudinal impacts and expand the scope to include diverse geographic settings, thereby enriching the understanding of digital transformation in business education.

The study aims to identify the relationship between the use of digital learning tools and students’ business skills development. To do this, the researcher will first review existing literature on digital education and skill acquisition, identifying gaps related to specific tools and skills. Then, a quantitative research design will be adopted involving data collection from students enrolled in business courses using digital tools such as virtual simulations, online collaboration platforms, and business analytics software.
The researcher will select a sample of 300 students from several universities using stratified random sampling to ensure representativeness. Data will be collected through structured questionnaires measuring students’ perceived skill improvements and their engagement with digital tools, complemented by academic performance records. Data analysis will include descriptive statistics to summarize responses, and regression analysis to identify the strength and nature of relationships between digital tool usage and skill development.
The expected contribution of this study is to clarify which digital tools most effectively support business skills development, offering practical guidance to educators. The findings will also fill gaps in existing research, providing empirical evidence on the impact of digital learning on skill enhancement. It is anticipated that the study will conclude digital tools significantly aid in developing business skills, and recommend integrating specific technologies into curricula to maximize student outcomes, thereby improving educational practices and employability prospects.
