The Malaysian manufacturing sector faces a widening gap between MBA education outputs and industry competency requirements, particularly in strategic operations, digital transformation, and supply chain resilience, which undermines firm-level performance and regional competitiveness. This study investigates how MBA education reform—encompassing curriculum modernization, pedagogical innovations, and industry partnerships—can align managerial competencies with contemporary manufacturing demands. The aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of reform initiatives and identify design principles that enhance graduate employability, firm performance, and knowledge transfer within Malaysia’s manufacturing ecosystem. Specific objectives include (1) assessing the alignment between MBA curricula and sector-specific skill gaps identified by manufacturing HR managers; (2) examining perceived relevance and applicability of MBA learning outcomes to key manufacturing functions; (3) evaluating the impact of industry–university collaboration on practical competencies and internship experiences; (4) analyzing the relationship between MBA graduates’ competencies and firm performance metrics; and (5) proposing a reform framework grounded in theory and empirical evidence for scalable implementation across the sector. A mixed-methods research design will be employed, combining quantitative and qualitative data to provide a comprehensive understanding of reform impacts. The population comprises MBA graduates from five leading Malaysian business schools and managerial HR stakeholders from 40 manufacturing firms distributed across electronics, automotive, and consumer goods subsectors.
