Urban centers globally face increasing challenges related to traffic congestion, sprawling development, and environmental degradation, which necessitate sustainable transit-oriented development (TOD) strategies that promote compact, accessible, and eco-friendly urban growth. This study addresses the critical gap in empirical understanding of how integrated planning approaches can effectively foster sustainable TOD in rapidly urbanizing contexts. The primary aim is to design, implement, and evaluate context-specific sustainable TOD strategies that enhance urban mobility, reduce carbon emissions, and improve social equity within metropolitan zones. The research sets out with three specific objectives first, to identify key factors influencing the effectiveness of existing TOD initiatives; second, to develop a comprehensive framework for sustainable TOD implementation tailored to the study locale; and third, to empirically evaluate the impacts of the proposed strategies on urban sustainability indicators. The study formulates the central research question How can sustainable TOD strategies be designed and evaluated to optimize urban environmental, social, and economic outcomes? It also hypothesizes that integrated, multi-stakeholder TOD strategies significantly improve transit usage, reduce private vehicle dependency, and foster social inclusivity. Employing a mixed-methods research design, the study combines quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews and participatory workshops.
