Thesis Abstract
**Abstract
** Urbanization is a significant global phenomenon that has a profound impact on land use patterns, environmental sustainability, and urban development. The rapid expansion of urban areas often leads to changes in land use, resulting in various socio-economic and environmental challenges. In this study, we aim to analyze urban land use change using remote sensing and GIS techniques to understand the dynamics of urban development and its implications. The research will be conducted in a selected urban area, utilizing satellite imagery and GIS data to map and monitor land use changes over a specific period. The study will involve the collection, processing, and analysis of remote sensing data to identify and quantify changes in land cover types such as residential, commercial, industrial, and green spaces. GIS tools will be employed to spatially analyze and visualize the patterns of land use change, allowing for a comprehensive assessment of urban growth dynamics. The objectives of this research include (1) to identify and map land use changes in the study area using remote sensing and GIS techniques, (2) to analyze the drivers and factors influencing urban land use change, (3) to assess the impacts of urbanization on the environment and society, and (4) to propose sustainable land use planning strategies for future urban development. The methodology involves a combination of remote sensing data processing, GIS analysis, and spatial modeling techniques. The research will utilize supervised and unsupervised classification methods to classify land cover types and detect changes over time. Additionally, statistical analysis and spatial modeling will be used to investigate the relationships between urbanization factors and land use change patterns. The findings of this study will provide valuable insights into the dynamics of urban land use change, highlighting the spatial and temporal trends of urban development. The results will contribute to a better understanding of the interactions between urbanization, land use, and environmental sustainability. The study will also offer recommendations for sustainable land use planning and management practices to mitigate the negative impacts of rapid urban growth. In conclusion, this research aims to enhance our knowledge of urban land use change dynamics using advanced remote sensing and GIS techniques. By analyzing the spatial patterns and drivers of urbanization, this study will contribute to informed decision-making processes for sustainable urban development and land use planning.
