The role of secretaries in the modern labour force is critical for the smooth functioning of organizations. However, various hindrances affect the effective performance of secretaries in their roles. This research project aims to identify and analyze the key obstacles that impact the performance of secretaries in the labour force. The study utilizes a mixed-methods approach, combining surveys and interviews to gather data from both secretaries and their supervisors. Preliminary findings suggest that inadequate training and professional development opportunities are significant hindrances to secretary performance. The lack of specific training programs tailored to the evolving needs of secretaries inhibits their ability to adapt to changing work environments effectively. Additionally, the absence of clear job descriptions and expectations contributes to role ambiguity and can lead to inefficiencies in task execution. Furthermore, technological challenges emerge as a prominent barrier to secretary performance. The rapid pace of technological advancements necessitates secretaries to continually update their skills to remain competitive in the labour force. However, limited access to training on new software and tools impedes their efficiency and effectiveness in executing tasks. Moreover, organizational factors such as poor management support and communication barriers also hinder the performance of secretaries. Inadequate support from supervisors and a lack of open communication channels can lead to misunderstandings, delays in task completion, and decreased job satisfaction among secretaries. Addressing these hindrances requires a multifaceted approach that involves a commitment from organizations to invest in training and development programs specifically designed for secretaries. Clear job descriptions and regular performance evaluations can help mitigate role ambiguity and provide secretaries with a roadmap for success. Additionally, fostering a supportive work environment with open communication channels can enhance secretary performance and job satisfaction. By identifying and addressing the hindrances that impede secretary performance in the labour force, organizations can optimize the contributions of secretaries and improve overall organizational efficiency.
