Thesis Abstract

Abstract
This thesis investigates the effectiveness of using interactive simulations in teaching biology concepts to high school students. The utilization of technology in education has become increasingly prevalent, with interactive simulations emerging as a promising tool to enhance student learning experiences. In the field of biology education, interactive simulations offer a dynamic and engaging platform for students to explore complex biological concepts in a virtual environment. However, the effectiveness of these simulations in facilitating student understanding and retention of biology content remains a subject of inquiry. The research methodology employed in this study involved a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques. A sample of high school students participated in the study, engaging with interactive biology simulations as part of their regular curriculum. Pre- and post-assessment tests were administered to measure student learning outcomes, while surveys and interviews were conducted to gather insights into student perceptions of the interactive simulations. The findings of this study revealed that the use of interactive simulations positively impacted student engagement and understanding of biology concepts. Students reported a higher level of motivation and interest in learning when using interactive simulations compared to traditional instructional methods. Additionally, quantitative data analysis demonstrated a significant improvement in student performance on post-assessment tests following exposure to interactive simulations. Through a detailed discussion of the research findings, this thesis examines the implications of incorporating interactive simulations into biology education. The benefits and challenges associated with using interactive simulations in the classroom are explored, along with recommendations for educators looking to integrate this technology into their teaching practices. The study contributes to the existing literature on technology-enhanced learning in science education and provides valuable insights for educators, curriculum developers, and policymakers seeking to enhance biology instruction in high schools. In conclusion, the findings of this study support the effectiveness of using interactive simulations in teaching biology concepts to high school students. By providing a stimulating and interactive learning environment, interactive simulations have the potential to improve student engagement, understanding, and retention of biology content. This research contributes to the ongoing dialogue surrounding the integration of technology in education and highlights the importance of innovative instructional approaches in promoting student learning outcomes in science education.
