Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Building Information Modelling (BIM) has revolutionized the construction industry by enhancing collaboration, efficiency, and accuracy in project management. This research focuses on the application of BIM in the field of Quantity Surveying, particularly in cost estimation and quantity takeoff processes. The primary objective of this study is to explore how BIM technology can improve the accuracy and efficiency of cost estimation and quantity takeoff tasks in Quantity Surveying practices. The research methodology employed in this study involves a comprehensive literature review to understand the current state of BIM implementation in Quantity Surveying and the challenges faced in cost estimation and quantity takeoff processes. Additionally, a case study approach will be used to analyze real-world projects where BIM was utilized for cost estimation and quantity takeoff. Through the literature review, ten key areas related to BIM implementation in Quantity Surveying will be identified and discussed. These areas include the benefits of BIM in cost estimation, challenges faced in BIM adoption, integration of BIM with Quantity Surveying software, and the impact of BIM on project outcomes. The research methodology chapter will outline the approach taken to investigate the research questions, including data collection methods, sampling techniques, and data analysis procedures. It will also discuss the ethical considerations involved in conducting this research. The findings chapter will provide a detailed analysis of the case studies and highlight the key outcomes related to the application of BIM in cost estimation and quantity takeoff. The discussion will focus on the effectiveness of BIM in improving accuracy, efficiency, and collaboration in Quantity Surveying practices. In conclusion, this research will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the application of BIM in Quantity Surveying and provide recommendations for practitioners looking to enhance their cost estimation and quantity takeoff processes using BIM technology. The significance of this study lies in its potential to improve the overall efficiency and accuracy of Quantity Surveying practices, leading to better project outcomes and client satisfaction.
