Cross-cultural variations in bilingual experiences shape cognitive control processes across diverse linguistic environments. This study addresses how bilingualism and cultural context interact to influence cognitive flexibility in adulthood, an area with inconsistent findings and limited cross-cultural sampling. The aim is to determine whether bilingual proficiency, language use patterns, and acculturation differentially predict cognitive flexibility across culturally diverse populations, while testing the applicability of bilingual executive control theories such as the Inhibitory Control Model (Green, 1998) and the Adaptive Control Hypothesis (Abutalebi & Green, 2016). Specific objectives are (1) to compare cognitive flexibility across three cultural groups with varying bilingual experiences; (2) to examine the moderating role of acculturation, language switching frequency, and socio-economic status on this relationship; (3) to investigate whether receptive and productive bilingual proficiencies differentially relate to task-switching and set-shifting performance; and (4) to integrate findings with cultural neuroscience perspectives on bilingualism.
