This study examines the impact of social media on political polarization within democratic societies. The rapid proliferation of social media has transformed the way individuals engage with political information and interact with others holding differing viewpoints, leading to increased polarization along ideological lines. Through a comprehensive literature review, this thesis explores the various ways in which social media contributes to political polarization, including echo chambers, filter bubbles, and the spread of misinformation. The research methodology section outlines the approach taken to investigate the relationship between social media use and political polarization. Utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methods, this study analyzes data from surveys, interviews, and content analysis of social media platforms. The findings reveal the extent to which social media exacerbates political polarization by reinforcing pre-existing biases, limiting exposure to diverse perspectives, and fostering a climate of hostility and division.
