Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Print media, particularly newspapers, has played a significant role in shaping the Nigerian political structure. This study aims to investigate the impact of print media on Nigerian politics, focusing on how newspapers influence public opinion, political discourse, and government policies. The research will analyze the historical context of print media in Nigeria and its evolution over time, highlighting key newspapers and their role in shaping political narratives. Through content analysis and case studies, this research will explore the relationship between newspapers and political actors in Nigeria, examining how the media covers political events, influences public perception of political leaders, and shapes the agenda for national discourse. The study will also investigate the role of newspapers in holding government officials accountable, exposing corruption, and promoting transparency in governance. Furthermore, this research will examine the challenges and limitations faced by print media in Nigeria, including political censorship, financial constraints, and ethical dilemmas. By examining the experiences of journalists, editors, and media organizations, this study will provide insights into the dynamics of media-politics relations in Nigeria and the implications for democratic governance. The findings of this research will contribute to the existing literature on media and politics in Nigeria, offering new perspectives on the role of print media in shaping the country's political landscape. The study will also provide practical recommendations for journalists, policymakers, and civil society organizations on how to strengthen the role of print media in promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance in Nigeria. Overall, this research seeks to deepen our understanding of the complex interplay between print media and politics in Nigeria, highlighting the ways in which newspapers influence public opinion, shape political debates, and impact the broader political structure of the country. By shedding light on the power dynamics between media and politics, this study aims to stimulate further research and dialogue on the role of print media in democratic societies.
