Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Stroke is a leading cause of disability worldwide, often resulting in impairments in balance and mobility. Traditional physiotherapy interventions have been the cornerstone of stroke rehabilitation, but emerging technologies like virtual reality offer innovative approaches to enhance recovery outcomes. This thesis investigates the impact of virtual reality rehabilitation on balance and mobility in stroke patients through a randomized controlled trial. The study comprises a comprehensive literature review that explores the efficacy of virtual reality in stroke rehabilitation, emphasizing its potential benefits in improving balance and mobility outcomes. Methodologically, a randomized controlled trial design is employed, with stroke patients randomly assigned to either a virtual reality intervention group or a conventional physiotherapy control group. The intervention group undergoes a structured virtual reality rehabilitation program targeting balance and mobility, while the control group receives standard physiotherapy treatment. Results from the study are analyzed and discussed in detail in Chapter Four, highlighting the effectiveness of virtual reality rehabilitation in improving balance and mobility outcomes compared to traditional physiotherapy. Factors such as engagement, motivation, and task-specific training within a virtual environment contribute to the positive outcomes observed in the intervention group. The discussion delves into the implications of these findings for clinical practice and the future direction of stroke rehabilitation research. In conclusion, the findings of this study underscore the potential of virtual reality rehabilitation as a valuable adjunct to traditional physiotherapy in enhancing balance and mobility outcomes in stroke patients. The study contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting the integration of technology-based interventions in stroke rehabilitation protocols. The thesis concludes with recommendations for further research and the implementation of virtual reality interventions in clinical practice to optimize stroke recovery outcomes.
