Abstract
This thesis examines the impact of virtual reality (VR) rehabilitation on balance and mobility in older adults through a randomized controlled trial. The study aims to explore the potential benefits of incorporating VR technology into traditional physiotherapy practices for improving functional outcomes in the elderly population. The research methodology involved a randomized controlled trial design, where older adults were assigned to either a VR rehabilitation group or a control group receiving standard physiotherapy interventions. The intervention period spanned several weeks, during which participants underwent specific VR exercises targeting balance and mobility. Various outcome measures, including balance assessments, gait analysis, and quality of life measures, were utilized to evaluate the effectiveness of VR rehabilitation compared to traditional methods. The findings of the study revealed significant improvements in balance, gait performance, and overall mobility in older adults who underwent VR rehabilitation compared to those in the control group. Additionally, participants in the VR group reported high levels of engagement and motivation during the intervention, indicating a positive experience with the technology. The study concludes that integrating VR rehabilitation into physiotherapy interventions for older adults can be a promising approach to enhance balance and mobility outcomes, providing a more engaging and effective rehabilitation experience.
