Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Stroke survivors often experience impairments in balance and gait, significantly impacting their quality of life and functional independence. Virtual reality-based rehabilitation has emerged as a promising intervention to address these challenges by providing an engaging and interactive platform for therapy. This study aimed to investigate the effects of virtual reality-based rehabilitation on balance and gait in stroke survivors through a randomized controlled trial. The study design involved recruiting stroke survivors who met the inclusion criteria and randomly assigning them to either the experimental group receiving virtual reality-based rehabilitation or the control group receiving conventional therapy. The intervention period lasted for a specified duration, during which participants underwent the assigned therapy sessions as per the study protocol. Outcome measures included assessments of balance and gait parameters pre and post-intervention using standardized clinical tests and motion analysis systems. The results of the study revealed significant improvements in balance and gait outcomes in the experimental group compared to the control group. Stroke survivors who underwent virtual reality-based rehabilitation demonstrated enhanced balance control, reduced postural sway, improved weight shifting abilities, and more efficient gait patterns. These improvements were attributed to the interactive nature of virtual reality therapy, which provided task-specific training, real-time feedback, and motivation for participants to engage in rehabilitation activities. Furthermore, the study highlighted the importance of individualized therapy programs tailored to the specific needs and abilities of stroke survivors. Virtual reality-based rehabilitation allowed for personalized interventions that targeted the deficits identified in each participant, leading to better functional outcomes and increased engagement in therapy sessions. The findings suggest that incorporating virtual reality technology into traditional rehabilitation approaches can enhance the effectiveness of interventions for stroke survivors. In conclusion, this randomized controlled trial demonstrated the positive effects of virtual reality-based rehabilitation on balance and gait in stroke survivors. The study contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting the use of technology-assisted interventions in rehabilitation settings. Future research should focus on optimizing virtual reality platforms, exploring long-term effects of therapy, and expanding the application of this innovative approach to improve outcomes for individuals recovering from stroke.
