Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Stroke is a leading cause of disability worldwide, often resulting in impaired balance and gait. Virtual reality (VR) rehabilitation has emerged as a promising intervention for stroke patients, offering innovative ways to improve motor function and mobility. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of VR rehabilitation in enhancing balance and gait in stroke patients through a randomized controlled trial. The research design employed a randomized controlled trial with stroke patients randomly assigned to either a VR rehabilitation group or a conventional therapy group. The VR rehabilitation group underwent immersive virtual reality exercises targeting balance and gait, while the conventional therapy group received standard physiotherapy interventions. Various outcome measures, including balance assessments, gait analysis, and functional mobility tests, were utilized to evaluate the effectiveness of VR rehabilitation. Results from the study indicated that stroke patients who underwent VR rehabilitation showed significant improvements in balance and gait parameters compared to those receiving conventional therapy. Virtual reality interventions were found to enhance postural control, increase gait speed, and improve overall functional mobility in stroke patients. Furthermore, participants in the VR rehabilitation group reported high levels of engagement and motivation during the virtual reality sessions. These findings highlight the potential of VR rehabilitation as a valuable adjunct to traditional physiotherapy approaches in the rehabilitation of stroke patients with balance and gait impairments. The immersive and interactive nature of virtual reality exercises offers a novel and engaging platform for enhancing motor function and mobility in stroke survivors. Incorporating VR rehabilitation into standard care protocols could lead to more effective and enjoyable rehabilitation experiences for stroke patients, ultimately improving their quality of life and functional outcomes. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the effectiveness of VR rehabilitation in improving balance and gait in stroke patients. The findings support the integration of virtual reality interventions into clinical practice to optimize rehabilitation outcomes for individuals recovering from stroke-related impairments. Future research should further explore the long-term effects and potential benefits of incorporating VR technology in stroke rehabilitation programs.
