Thesis Abstract

Abstract
This thesis explores the effectiveness of virtual reality rehabilitation in improving balance and mobility in stroke survivors through a randomized controlled trial. Stroke is a leading cause of long-term disabilities worldwide, often resulting in impaired balance and mobility. Traditional rehabilitation methods have shown some success, but there is a growing interest in the potential benefits of virtual reality technology in enhancing recovery outcomes. This study aims to investigate the impact of virtual reality-based rehabilitation interventions on balance and mobility among stroke survivors compared to conventional therapy approaches through a rigorous randomized controlled trial. The literature review provides a comprehensive overview of the current understanding of stroke rehabilitation, the role of balance and mobility in post-stroke recovery, and the emerging use of virtual reality technology in rehabilitation settings. The review highlights the gaps in existing research and the potential advantages of incorporating virtual reality into stroke rehabilitation programs. The research methodology section outlines the study design, participant selection criteria, intervention protocols, outcome measures, and data analysis methods. A sample size calculation is performed to ensure statistical power, and ethical considerations are discussed to ensure the safety and well-being of participants throughout the study. Findings from the randomized controlled trial are presented and analyzed in detail in the discussion chapter. The results provide insights into the effectiveness of virtual reality rehabilitation interventions in improving balance and mobility outcomes among stroke survivors. The discussion also explores the implications of these findings for clinical practice, future research directions, and the potential integration of virtual reality technology into mainstream rehabilitation programs. In conclusion, this study contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting the use of virtual reality technology in stroke rehabilitation. The results suggest that virtual reality-based interventions have the potential to enhance balance and mobility outcomes in stroke survivors compared to conventional therapy approaches. The findings underscore the importance of integrating innovative technologies into rehabilitation practice to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. Keywords Stroke rehabilitation, virtual reality, balance, mobility, randomized controlled trial, outcomes, technology, innovation.
