Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Stroke is a leading cause of disability worldwide, often resulting in impaired balance and mobility. Traditional rehabilitation methods have limitations in promoting functional recovery in stroke patients. Virtual reality (VR) rehabilitation has emerged as a promising intervention to enhance balance and mobility in stroke survivors. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of VR rehabilitation in improving balance and mobility in stroke patients through a randomized controlled trial (RCT). The research design involves a sample of stroke patients who will undergo either VR rehabilitation or conventional therapy. Outcome measures will include balance assessments such as the Berg Balance Scale and mobility assessments like the Timed Up and Go test. Data will be collected at baseline, post-intervention, and follow-up time points to evaluate the effectiveness of VR rehabilitation compared to traditional therapy. The literature review highlights the theoretical framework supporting the use of VR rehabilitation in stroke recovery. It discusses previous studies investigating the impact of VR interventions on balance and mobility outcomes in stroke patients. The review also addresses the potential mechanisms underlying the effectiveness of VR in promoting neuroplasticity and motor learning in individuals with neurological impairments. The research methodology section outlines the study design, participant recruitment, intervention protocols, outcome measures, data analysis procedures, and ethical considerations. It details the randomization process, blinding procedures, and statistical analyses to ensure the validity and reliability of the study findings. The results of the study will be discussed in detail, analyzing the impact of VR rehabilitation on balance and mobility outcomes in stroke patients. The findings will be compared to conventional therapy outcomes, highlighting the potential superiority of VR interventions in promoting functional recovery in this population. In conclusion, this thesis contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting the use of VR rehabilitation as an effective intervention for improving balance and mobility in stroke survivors. The findings have implications for clinical practice, suggesting that incorporating VR technologies into rehabilitation programs can enhance the outcomes of stroke rehabilitation. Future research directions and recommendations for implementing VR interventions in stroke rehabilitation programs will be discussed. Keywords Stroke, Virtual Reality Rehabilitation, Balance, Mobility, Randomized Controlled Trial, Neurorehabilitation.
