Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Stroke is a leading cause of long-term disability worldwide, often resulting in balance and mobility impairments that significantly impact quality of life. Traditional rehabilitation approaches have limitations in addressing these issues effectively. Virtual reality (VR) rehabilitation has emerged as a promising intervention for stroke patients, offering engaging and interactive platforms to improve physical function. This research aims to investigate the effectiveness of VR rehabilitation in enhancing balance and mobility in stroke patients through a randomized controlled trial. The study design involves a randomized controlled trial with stroke patients randomly assigned to either a VR rehabilitation group or a conventional rehabilitation group. The VR rehabilitation group will undergo a series of immersive and interactive VR exercises targeting balance and mobility, while the conventional group will receive standard rehabilitation interventions. Outcome measures will include balance assessments, gait analysis, and functional mobility tests conducted pre- and post-intervention to evaluate the effectiveness of VR rehabilitation. In the literature review, ten key studies will be analyzed to provide a comprehensive overview of the current evidence on VR rehabilitation in stroke patients. The review will highlight the benefits and limitations of VR technology in improving balance and mobility outcomes, as well as the potential mechanisms underlying its effectiveness. The research methodology will detail the study design, participant recruitment criteria, intervention protocols, outcome measures, data collection procedures, and statistical analysis plan. Various aspects of the methodology, including sample size calculation, randomization procedures, blinding methods, and ethical considerations, will be thoroughly discussed to ensure the rigor and validity of the study. The discussion of findings will present the results of the randomized controlled trial, comparing the outcomes between the VR rehabilitation group and the conventional rehabilitation group. The implications of the findings for clinical practice and future research will be discussed, along with potential challenges and recommendations for implementing VR rehabilitation programs in stroke rehabilitation settings. In conclusion, this thesis contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting the effectiveness of VR rehabilitation in improving balance and mobility in stroke patients. The findings of this study have the potential to inform clinical practice and guide the development of innovative rehabilitation strategies for stroke survivors. The study underscores the importance of exploring novel interventions such as VR technology to optimize rehabilitation outcomes and enhance the recovery process in stroke patients.
