Thesis Abstract

Abstract
This thesis investigates the effectiveness of virtual reality (VR) rehabilitation in improving balance and gait in stroke patients through a randomized controlled trial (RCT). Stroke is a leading cause of long-term disability, often resulting in balance and gait impairments that significantly impact the quality of life of affected individuals. Conventional rehabilitation techniques have limitations, prompting the exploration of innovative methods such as VR technology. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of VR rehabilitation in addressing balance and gait deficits in stroke survivors. The literature review highlights the prevalence and impact of stroke-related balance and gait impairments, emphasizing the need for effective rehabilitation strategies. Ten key studies focusing on VR interventions in stroke rehabilitation are critically analyzed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the existing evidence base. The research methodology section outlines the design and implementation of the RCT, including participant recruitment, intervention protocols, outcome measures, and data analysis procedures. This chapter discusses the rationale for the study design, participant selection criteria, randomization process, blinding methods, and ethical considerations. The findings from the RCT are presented and discussed in Chapter Four, detailing the outcomes of the VR rehabilitation intervention on balance and gait parameters in stroke patients. The results are analyzed in comparison to the control group to assess the impact of VR technology on functional outcomes and quality of life measures. In conclusion, this study contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting the use of VR rehabilitation in improving balance and gait in stroke patients. The implications of the findings for clinical practice, future research directions, and the potential integration of VR technology into rehabilitation settings are discussed. Overall, this thesis highlights the promising role of VR interventions in enhancing functional recovery and mobility outcomes for individuals recovering from stroke.
