Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Stroke is a leading cause of long-term disability worldwide, often resulting in balance impairments that significantly impact the quality of life of affected individuals. Traditional physiotherapy interventions have demonstrated effectiveness in improving balance in stroke patients; however, emerging technologies such as virtual reality (VR) offer innovative approaches to rehabilitation. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of VR rehabilitation in improving balance in stroke patients through a randomized controlled trial. The study will involve stroke patients with balance impairments who will be randomly assigned to either a VR rehabilitation group or a traditional physiotherapy group. Participants in the VR group will undergo a series of balance training exercises using VR technology, while those in the control group will receive standard physiotherapy interventions. The primary outcome measure will be changes in balance performance assessed using standardized balance assessment tools such as the Berg Balance Scale and the Timed Up and Go test. A comprehensive literature review will be conducted to explore the existing evidence on the use of VR technology in rehabilitation and its impact on balance outcomes in stroke patients. The research methodology will include detailed descriptions of the study design, participant recruitment criteria, intervention protocols, outcome measures, and data analysis procedures. The findings of this study are expected to provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of VR rehabilitation in improving balance in stroke patients. The discussion will analyze the results in the context of existing literature, highlighting the potential benefits and limitations of VR technology in stroke rehabilitation. Implications for clinical practice and future research directions will be discussed. In conclusion, this study aims to contribute to the growing body of evidence on innovative rehabilitation approaches for stroke patients. The results have the potential to inform clinical practice and guide the development of tailored interventions to improve balance outcomes in this population. Ultimately, the study seeks to enhance the quality of life and functional independence of stroke survivors through the integration of cutting-edge technology in rehabilitation practice.
