Abstract
This thesis explores the impact of virtual reality-based rehabilitation on balance and gait in stroke patients through a randomized controlled trial. Stroke is a leading cause of long-term disability, often resulting in impaired balance and gait function. Virtual reality technology has emerged as a promising tool in physiotherapy for improving motor function, including balance and gait, in stroke survivors. However, the effectiveness of virtual reality-based rehabilitation specifically on balance and gait outcomes in stroke patients remains underexplored. The study design involved a randomized controlled trial where stroke patients were randomly assigned to either a virtual reality-based rehabilitation group or a conventional physiotherapy group. The primary outcome measures were balance and gait performance, assessed using standardized clinical assessments and motion analysis techniques. Secondary outcomes included patient-reported outcomes related to quality of life and satisfaction with the intervention. Results from the study indicated that stroke patients who underwent virtual reality-based rehabilitation showed significant improvements in balance and gait parameters compared to those receiving conventional physiotherapy.
