Thesis Abstract

Abstract
This thesis investigates the effectiveness of virtual reality rehabilitation in improving functional outcomes in stroke patients through a randomized controlled trial. Stroke is a leading cause of long-term disability worldwide, often resulting in significant impairments in functional abilities and quality of life. Traditional rehabilitation methods have limitations in engaging patients and providing personalized, motivating therapy. Virtual reality technology offers a promising alternative by creating immersive and interactive environments that can enhance engagement and facilitate targeted rehabilitation exercises. The study aims to address the gap in the current literature regarding the efficacy of virtual reality rehabilitation for stroke patients. A randomized controlled trial design will be employed to compare the outcomes of stroke patients undergoing virtual reality rehabilitation with those receiving conventional therapy. Functional outcomes, including motor function, balance, activities of daily living, and quality of life, will be assessed before and after the intervention using standardized outcome measures. The literature review provides a comprehensive overview of the current research on virtual reality rehabilitation in stroke patients. Key themes explored include the theoretical framework of virtual reality technology in rehabilitation, the potential benefits and challenges of using virtual reality in stroke rehabilitation, and previous studies investigating the effectiveness of virtual reality interventions in improving functional outcomes in stroke patients. The research methodology section outlines the study design, participant selection criteria, intervention protocol, outcome measures, data analysis plan, and ethical considerations. The study will recruit a sample of stroke patients from rehabilitation centers and randomly assign them to either the virtual reality rehabilitation group or the control group. Participants will undergo a structured rehabilitation program over a specified period, and their functional outcomes will be assessed at baseline and post-intervention. The discussion of findings chapter presents the results of the randomized controlled trial and compares the functional outcomes between the virtual reality rehabilitation group and the control group. The implications of the findings for clinical practice, future research directions, and the potential impact of virtual reality rehabilitation on stroke rehabilitation are discussed. In conclusion, this thesis contributes to the growing body of evidence on the effectiveness of virtual reality rehabilitation in improving functional outcomes in stroke patients. The findings have the potential to inform clinical practice and advance the field of stroke rehabilitation by exploring innovative and engaging therapeutic approaches. Further research is needed to explore the long-term effects and cost-effectiveness of virtual reality rehabilitation in stroke rehabilitation.
