Thesis Abstract

Abstract
This retrospective study aimed to analyze the prevalence and clinical implications of drug interactions in polypharmacy patients. Polypharmacy, defined as the concurrent use of multiple medications by an individual, is a common practice in healthcare, especially among the elderly population and those with multiple chronic conditions. The study employed a retrospective design, utilizing medical records of polypharmacy patients over a specified period. A total of [insert number] patient records were included in the analysis. Chapter one provides an introduction to the study, outlining the background, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure, and definition of terms. The literature review in chapter two encompassed ten key themes related to drug interactions, polypharmacy, clinical outcomes, risk factors, and management strategies. Chapter three detailed the research methodology, including study design, data collection methods, participant selection criteria, data analysis techniques, ethical considerations, and limitations. The findings discussed in chapter four revealed a high prevalence of drug interactions among polypharmacy patients, with [insert percentage] of patients experiencing at least one clinically significant interaction. The most common drug classes involved in interactions were [insert examples]. Clinical outcomes associated with these interactions included [insert examples]. Factors contributing to the occurrence of drug interactions were identified, such as age, number of medications, comorbidities, and prescriber practices. In conclusion, this study sheds light on the complex issue of drug interactions in polypharmacy patients and highlights the need for increased awareness, monitoring, and interventions to mitigate potential harm. The findings underscore the importance of a multidisciplinary approach involving healthcare providers, pharmacists, and patients in optimizing medication therapy and ensuring patient safety. Recommendations for future research and clinical practice are provided to enhance the quality of care for polypharmacy patients and minimize the risks associated with drug interactions.
