Digital workplaces promise enhanced efficiency for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) but face gaps between technology adoption and measurable performance gains. This study develops a robust framework for modeling digital workplace efficiency (DWE) in SMEs by integrating technology acceptance, process alignment, and organizational readiness to transform work practices and output. The aim is to identify core drivers of DWE, quantify their relationships, and propose a parsimonious, testable model that can guide SME managers in prioritizing digital tools and process changes. Specific objectives are (1) to synthesize contemporary theories on technology adoption, workflow management, and organizational readiness into a cohesive framework for SMEs; (2) to operationalize digital workplace efficiency through a composite index capturing technology usage, process alignment, employee capability, and outcome metrics; (3) to empirically test the proposed model using a multi-method design; (4) to examine contextual moderating effects of firm size, sector, and digital maturity; and (5) to provide actionable recommendations for achieving measurable efficiency gains. The methodological approach combines a deductive theory-driven model specification with an embedded mixed-methods design. The population comprises 1,200 SMEs across manufacturing, services, and retail sectors within a national business ecosystem. A stratified random sample of 420 SMEs will be drawn, with 240 completing a structured survey and 60 conducting in-depth interviews to triangulate findings. The implications for practice include a diagnostic toolkit for SME managers to assess readiness, prioritize digital investments, and track efficiency gains over time. Policy implications concern supportive interventions that enhance SME digital readiness and capability-building programs. The study concludes that deliberate alignment of digital tools with organizational processes and people capabilities is essential for realizing measurable efficiency improvements in SMEs, and it recommends phased implementation guided by the proposed framework, accompanied by continuous monitoring and iterative refinement of digital workplaces.
