Educational technology increasingly shapes classroom engagement, yet empirical evidence on how educational music apps influence elementary students’ active participation across diverse cultural contexts remains fragmented and context-specific. This study addresses the gap by examining how curated music-app interventions affect authentic classroom engagement—behavioral participation, cognitive involvement, and affective motivation—among students from culturally diverse backgrounds in urban and suburban settings. The aim is to determine whether educational music apps enhance overall engagement and whether effects vary by cultural background, gender, and prior music proficiency, with theoretical grounding in Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory and the Self-Determination Theory to explain social mediation and intrinsic motivation in digital learning environments. The objectives are (1) to quantify the impact of a standardized music-app program on observed student engagement; (2) to explore differential effects across cultural groups and correlate engagement with intrinsic motivation and perceived autonomy support; (3) to identify contextual factors within classrooms that facilitate or hinder app-driven engagement; and (4) to develop a conceptual model linking app features to engagement outcomes across cultures.
