This study addresses the escalating global convergence and divergence in popular music by examining how structural configurations, timbral textures, and production aesthetics vary across major pop styles and how these elements influence listener perception and cultural reception. The problem centers on the limited integrative understanding of how genre-specific formal constraints (verse-chorus binary, drop structures, cadence patterns), sonic color (harmonic glitter, spectral balance, dynamic range), and studio techniques (compression regimes, sidechain dynamics, spatial mixing) interact to produce recognizable yet evolving global pop identities. The aim is to elucidate cross-cultural regularities and differences in production choices and their perceptual implications, with specific objectives to (1) map structural templates and deviation patterns across Western, Latin, K-pop, and Afro-pop repertoires; (2) analyze timbre trajectories using spectral centroid, roughness, inharmonicity, and dynamic range measures on a corpus of 320 commercially released tracks from 2019–2024; (3) assess production aesthetics through multivariate clustering of mixing and mastering features, including loudness normalization, stereo width, and reverb/drone usage; (4) test how structural and timbral variables predict listener-rated accessibility, memorability, and perceived authenticity; and (5) develop a conceptual model linking global pop styles to cultural reception and market dynamics.
