Thesis Abstract

**Abstract
** The rise of antimicrobial resistance poses a significant threat to public health, highlighting the urgent need for alternative antimicrobial agents. Plant extracts have been recognized for their potential antimicrobial properties, making them attractive candidates for combating pathogenic bacteria. The aim of this study was to investigate the antimicrobial properties of various plant extracts against pathogenic bacteria, with a focus on identifying potential alternative antimicrobial agents. The research methodology involved the collection and extraction of plant samples, followed by screening for antimicrobial activity using well-established microbiological techniques. A variety of pathogenic bacteria were selected as test strains to assess the effectiveness of the plant extracts. The results of the antimicrobial screening were analyzed to determine the potency of the plant extracts in inhibiting bacterial growth. The literature review provided a comprehensive overview of previous studies on the antimicrobial properties of plant extracts, highlighting the diverse range of plants and extraction methods used in antimicrobial research. The review also discussed the mechanisms of action by which plant compounds exert antimicrobial effects, shedding light on the potential modes of action of the plant extracts investigated in this study. The findings of this study revealed promising antimicrobial activity in several plant extracts, demonstrating varying degrees of effectiveness against different pathogenic bacteria. The discussion of the findings delved into the implications of these results, emphasizing the potential of plant extracts as alternative antimicrobial agents and the importance of further research in this field. In conclusion, this thesis contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the antimicrobial properties of plant extracts against pathogenic bacteria. The significance of this study lies in the potential for identifying novel antimicrobial agents from natural sources, offering sustainable and effective solutions to combat antimicrobial resistance. This research underscores the importance of exploring the rich diversity of plant compounds for their antimicrobial potential and sets the stage for future investigations into harnessing the power of nature in the fight against pathogenic bacteria.
