Thesis Abstract

Abstract
The rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria poses a significant threat to public health worldwide, necessitating the exploration of alternative antimicrobial agents. This study focuses on investigating the antimicrobial properties of natural compounds extracted from plants against antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The research aims to evaluate the potential of these plant-derived compounds as effective antimicrobial agents and explore their mechanisms of action against resistant bacterial strains. The study begins with a comprehensive review of the literature on antibiotic resistance, the challenges it presents, and the need for novel antimicrobial agents. Various natural compounds extracted from plants have shown promising antimicrobial properties, prompting further investigation into their potential applications. The literature review also covers previous studies on plant-derived compounds and their effectiveness against antibiotic-resistant bacteria. In the research methodology, a series of experiments will be conducted to assess the antimicrobial activity of selected plant compounds against a panel of antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains. The methods include extraction of plant compounds, determination of minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs), and evaluation of synergistic effects with conventional antibiotics. In addition, the mechanisms of action of the plant compounds will be elucidated through various assays, such as membrane permeability and efflux pump inhibition studies. The discussion of findings will present the results of the antimicrobial activity assays, highlighting the potency of specific plant compounds against different antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains. The synergistic effects of combining plant compounds with conventional antibiotics will also be discussed, providing insights into potential combination therapies to combat resistant bacteria. Furthermore, the mechanisms of action elucidated through experimental assays will shed light on how these plant compounds exert their antimicrobial effects. In conclusion, this study contributes to the growing body of research on alternative antimicrobial agents and their potential applications in combating antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The findings underscore the importance of exploring natural compounds from plants as a valuable source of novel antimicrobial agents. The significance of this research lies in the potential development of new therapeutic strategies to address the global challenge of antibiotic resistance. Keywords antibiotic resistance, antimicrobial properties, natural compounds, plant extracts, bacterial strains, mechanisms of action, synergistic effects, alternative antimicrobial agents.
