Abstract
The emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance among bacterial pathogens pose a significant global health threat, leading to increased morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. This thesis aimed to investigate antibiotic resistance in clinical isolates of bacteria to understand the underlying mechanisms, prevalence, and implications for public health. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the study, discussing the background of antibiotic resistance, the problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definitions of key terms. Chapter 2 presents a comprehensive literature review covering ten key aspects related to antibiotic resistance in clinical bacterial isolates. Chapter 3 details the research methodology, including study design, sampling techniques, laboratory methods, data analysis, ethical considerations, and limitations. The findings of this study are discussed in Chapter 4, highlighting the prevalence of antibiotic resistance, the mechanisms involved, patterns of resistance, and factors contributing to resistance development. The implications of these findings for clinical practice, public health interventions, and future research are critically analyzed.
