Thesis Abstract

Abstract
The emergence of antibiotic resistance among bacterial pathogens poses a significant threat to public health worldwide. Hospital wastewater is considered a critical reservoir for antibiotic-resistant bacteria due to the selective pressure exerted by the widespread use of antibiotics in healthcare settings. This study aimed to investigate the antibiotic resistance profiles of bacteria isolated from hospital wastewater, with a focus on understanding the prevalence and mechanisms of resistance in these environmental isolates. The research methodology involved the collection of wastewater samples from different hospital sites, isolation and identification of bacterial strains, determination of antibiotic resistance profiles using standard microbiological techniques, and molecular analysis of resistance genes. A total of [insert number] bacterial isolates were obtained and subjected to antibiotic susceptibility testing against a panel of clinically relevant antibiotics. The findings revealed high levels of antibiotic resistance among the bacterial isolates, with multidrug resistance being a common phenomenon. The most commonly observed resistance profiles were against [insert common antibiotics]. Molecular analysis identified the presence of various resistance genes, including [insert specific genes], which are known to confer resistance to specific classes of antibiotics. The discussion of the findings highlighted the complex interplay between antibiotic use in healthcare settings and the development of resistance in environmental bacteria. The implications of these findings for public health, infection control practices, and antibiotic stewardship were critically analyzed. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the antibiotic resistance profiles of bacteria isolated from hospital wastewater, underscoring the urgent need for effective surveillance and control measures to mitigate the spread of antibiotic resistance in healthcare environments. The findings of this study contribute to the growing body of knowledge on antibiotic resistance and provide a basis for further research in this area. Keywords antibiotic resistance, hospital wastewater, bacterial isolates, multidrug resistance, resistance genes, public health.
