Thesis Abstract

Abstract
The rise of antimicrobial resistance poses a significant threat to public health worldwide, leading to an urgent need for alternative therapeutic approaches. In this study, the antimicrobial properties of plant extracts against pathogenic bacteria were investigated. The research aimed to explore the potential of plant-derived compounds as effective antimicrobial agents to combat bacterial infections. The study began with a comprehensive literature review to establish the background of the research, outlining the increasing challenges posed by antibiotic-resistant bacteria and the potential of plant extracts as natural alternatives. The methodology involved the extraction of bioactive compounds from selected plant species known for their traditional medicinal uses. These extracts were then tested against a panel of pathogenic bacteria using standard antimicrobial assays. The findings of this study revealed that several plant extracts exhibited significant antimicrobial activity against a range of pathogenic bacteria, including both Gram-positive and Gram-negative species. The results indicated that the antimicrobial efficacy of plant extracts varied depending on the bacterial strain and the specific plant species from which the extract was derived. Furthermore, the study identified specific bioactive compounds within the plant extracts responsible for their antimicrobial properties. The discussion section delved into the mechanisms of action by which plant extracts exert their antimicrobial effects, highlighting the potential of these natural compounds to target bacterial cell structures and disrupt essential cellular processes. The implications of these findings for the development of novel antimicrobial agents and the potential integration of plant-derived compounds into mainstream healthcare practices were also discussed. In conclusion, this research provides valuable insights into the antimicrobial properties of plant extracts and their potential applications in combating bacterial infections. The study contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting the use of natural products as effective alternatives to conventional antibiotics. Moving forward, further research is warranted to elucidate the specific mechanisms of action of plant-derived compounds and optimize their antimicrobial efficacy for clinical use.
