Thesis Abstract

Abstract
The rise of drug-resistant bacteria poses a significant challenge to public health worldwide, necessitating the exploration of alternative antimicrobial agents. This study focuses on investigating the antimicrobial properties of plant extracts as potential candidates for combating drug-resistant bacteria. The research aims to evaluate the efficacy of selected plant extracts against a panel of drug-resistant bacterial strains through a series of in vitro experiments. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, discussing the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms. The literature review in Chapter Two encompasses ten key areas related to antimicrobial properties of plant extracts and the mechanisms underlying their activity against drug-resistant bacteria. Chapter Three details the research methodology, including the selection and preparation of plant extracts, bacterial strains used, experimental setup, and data analysis procedures. This chapter also outlines the methods employed for assessing the antimicrobial activity of plant extracts through techniques such as disc diffusion assays and MIC/MBC determination. In Chapter Four, the findings of the study are extensively discussed, highlighting the antimicrobial efficacy of various plant extracts against drug-resistant bacterial strains. The results are analyzed in relation to the existing literature, elucidating the potential of plant extracts as alternative antimicrobial agents. Finally, Chapter Five presents the conclusion and summary of the thesis, emphasizing the key findings, implications, and recommendations for future research. The study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on plant-based antimicrobials and their role in combating drug-resistant bacteria, offering insights into potential therapeutic strategies to address this pressing public health issue.
