Abstract
Antibiotic resistance is a critical global health concern that threatens our ability to combat infectious diseases effectively. This thesis presents the findings of a comprehensive study on the exploration of antibiotic resistance in clinical isolates of pathogenic bacteria. The research aimed to investigate the prevalence of antibiotic resistance in clinical isolates, identify the mechanisms underlying resistance development, and evaluate the potential strategies to mitigate resistance. The study began with a thorough literature review to establish the current understanding of antibiotic resistance mechanisms and trends in clinical settings. Subsequently, a detailed methodology was designed to collect clinical isolates from diverse sources and assess their susceptibility to a panel of antibiotics using standard microbiological techniques. The research methodology also included molecular analyses to detect resistance genes and mechanisms. The findings of this study revealed a concerning level of antibiotic resistance among clinical isolates of pathogenic bacteria. Various resistance mechanisms, including efflux pumps, target modification, and biofilm formation, were identified in the isolates. Moreover, the study highlighted the role of horizontal gene transfer in spreading resistance genes among bacterial populations. In the discussion section, the implications of these findings were explored in the context of public health and clinical practice. The potential strategies to combat antibiotic resistance, such as antibiotic stewardship programs, combination therapy, and the development of novel antimicrobial agents, were critically evaluated.
