Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Stroke is a leading cause of disability worldwide, often resulting in long-term physical and cognitive impairments. Traditional rehabilitation methods have limitations in engaging and motivating patients throughout their recovery process. Virtual reality (VR) technology has emerged as a promising tool in stroke rehabilitation due to its interactive and immersive nature. This thesis presents a comparative study on the utilization of VR technology for stroke rehabilitation, aiming to explore its effectiveness in improving functional outcomes and quality of life compared to conventional rehabilitation methods. The research begins with a comprehensive review of the literature, examining existing studies on VR technology in stroke rehabilitation. Various aspects including the types of VR interventions, patient populations, outcome measures, and study designs are analyzed to provide a clear understanding of the current state of research in this field. The literature review identifies gaps and inconsistencies in the existing literature, highlighting the need for a comparative study to evaluate the efficacy of VR technology in stroke rehabilitation. The methodology section outlines the research design, participant recruitment criteria, intervention protocols, outcome measures, and data analysis methods employed in the comparative study. The study aims to recruit a sample of stroke survivors and randomly assign them to either a VR-based rehabilitation group or a conventional rehabilitation group. Functional assessments, quality of life measures, and patient satisfaction surveys will be conducted to evaluate the effectiveness and user experience of the interventions. The findings of the study are discussed in detail, comparing the outcomes between the two groups and identifying any significant differences in functional improvements, cognitive outcomes, and quality of life measures. The discussion also explores the feasibility, accessibility, and potential barriers to implementing VR technology in stroke rehabilitation settings. Recommendations for future research and clinical practice are provided based on the study results and limitations. In conclusion, this comparative study contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting the use of VR technology in stroke rehabilitation. The findings suggest that VR interventions have the potential to enhance functional recovery, cognitive abilities, and overall well-being in stroke survivors. By offering a more engaging and interactive rehabilitation experience, VR technology shows promise in improving patient outcomes and satisfaction. Further research and clinical trials are needed to validate these findings and optimize the integration of VR technology into standard stroke rehabilitation protocols.
