Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Stroke is a leading cause of long-term disability worldwide, often resulting in impairment of upper limb function. Traditional rehabilitation methods may not always provide the necessary intensity and engagement to promote optimal recovery. Virtual reality (VR) technology has emerged as a promising tool to enhance upper limb rehabilitation outcomes in stroke patients by providing interactive and engaging environments for therapeutic interventions. This thesis aims to investigate the effectiveness of using VR technology in upper limb rehabilitation for stroke patients. The study will begin with an introduction providing an overview of stroke-related upper limb impairments and the limitations of current rehabilitation approaches. A comprehensive review of the literature will be conducted to explore the existing evidence on the use of VR technology in stroke rehabilitation. The research methodology will include details on the study design, participant recruitment, intervention protocol, outcome measures, and data analysis techniques. Findings from the study will be discussed in Chapter Four, focusing on the impact of VR technology on upper limb motor function, activities of daily living, and quality of life in stroke patients. The results will be analyzed and interpreted to determine the effectiveness of VR-based rehabilitation interventions compared to conventional therapy approaches. In conclusion, the significance of the study lies in its potential to advance the field of medical rehabilitation by demonstrating the benefits of incorporating VR technology into upper limb rehabilitation for stroke patients. The implications of the findings will be discussed in terms of clinical practice, patient outcomes, and future research directions. Overall, this thesis contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting the use of VR technology as a valuable tool in improving upper limb function and promoting recovery in stroke patients. By harnessing the interactive and immersive nature of VR environments, clinicians and researchers can enhance the effectiveness of rehabilitation interventions and ultimately improve the quality of life for individuals recovering from stroke.
