Mobile app gamification has become a strategic mechanism to enhance consumer engagement and foster brand loyalty in competitive retail ecosystems. Yet, empirical evidence detailing how specific gamification elements influence engagement, affective commitment, and long-term loyalty across diverse consumer segments remains fragmented. This study aims to elucidate the causal pathways linking gamified mobile experiences to consumer engagement and brand loyalty, and to identify contextual moderators that shape these relationships. The objectives are (1) to quantify the impact of key gamification components—points, badges, leaderboards, challenges, and narrative quests—on behavioral engagement (frequency of app use, session length) and psychological engagement (flow, immersion); (2) to examine how experiential engagement translates into attitudinal loyalty (brand trust, perceived value) and behavioral loyalty (repeat purchases, advocacy); (3) to test the mediating roles of perceived value and flow, and the moderating effects of age, gender, and prior brand familiarity; and (4) to compare field performance across two retail categories (fashion and consumer electronics) to assess contextual variability. The study adopts a convergent mixed-methods design, integrating quantitative and qualitative strands to yield convergent validity and nuanced interpretation. The population comprises smartphone users in metropolitan markets who have engaged with a gamified shopping app within the last six months. A stratified random sample of 600 respondents will be targeted, with proportional allocation across fashion and electronics segments and a subsample of 40 in-depth interviews to enrich interpretive insights. Data collection will utilize a structured online survey comprising validated scales for gamification perceived value, intrinsic motivation, flow, customer engagement, trust, perceived value, purchase intention, and actual purchase behavior, supplemented by app analytics data (login frequency, feature usage, completion of quests). Recommendations include tailoring gamification architectures to target segments, investing in narrative-driven quests to foster flow, and continuous A/B testing of gamified features to optimize emotional and behavioral responses. Limitations are acknowledged, including potential self-selection bias in app users and the challenge of isolating gamification effects from broader marketing initiatives. Further research is suggested to explore longitudinal effects over extended periods, cross-cultural applicability, and the role of social features in collaborative gamification ecosystems.
