Syntactic variation in urban speech reflects dynamic contact between dialectal varieties, sociolects, and emergent language norms, yet there is limited large-scale empirical work tracing rapid syntactic changes in contemporary urban environments. This study addresses the gap by examining how urban residents deploy syntactic constructions that diverge from their regional baselines, identifying patterns of change across age and social network strata, and testing whether contact-induced convergence aligns with sociolinguistic labeling of variable features. The aim is to document and model syntactic change in progress within a metropolitan speech community using a corpus-based approach, and to evaluate the social and cognitive factors that accompany such change.
