This thesis investigates the phenomenon of code-switching in multilingual communities, focusing on the patterns and motivations behind language alternation. Code-switching, the practice of alternating between two or more languages within a single conversation or discourse, is a common linguistic behavior observed in diverse language communities around the world. This study aims to provide a detailed analysis of code-switching patterns within multilingual communities, exploring the factors that influence language alternation and the functions it serves in communicative interactions. The research begins with an examination of the theoretical background of code-switching, drawing on relevant literature to establish a framework for understanding the phenomenon. By reviewing existing studies on code-switching in multilingual contexts, this thesis aims to contribute to the growing body of knowledge on language alternation and its implications for language use and identity. A key focus of this study is to identify and analyze the various patterns of code-switching that occur within multilingual communities. Through the collection and analysis of language data from naturalistic interactions, this research seeks to uncover the systematic ways in which speakers alternate between languages and the linguistic structures that govern these alternations.
