Bilingual discourse often involves the strategic use of code-switching, which serves various conversational, pragmatic, and identity-related functions; however, existing analytical frameworks lack comprehensiveness and contextual flexibility in capturing the complex patterns and functions of code-switching across different bilingual settings. This study aims to develop a robust, context-sensitive analytical framework for examining code-switching phenomena in bilingual discourse, with specific objectives to identify discourse markers and conversational triggers associated with code-switching, analyze the syntactic and pragmatic constraints influencing switching boundaries, and propose a conceptual model that integrates sociolinguistic and cognitive factors affecting bilingual code-switching behaviors. Employing a mixed-methods research design, the study integrates qualitative discourse analysis with quantitative statistical modeling to attain a nuanced understanding of code-switching dynamics. The population comprises 150 bilingual participants aged 18–45 engaged in informal and formal communicative contexts within metropolitan bilingual communities, with a stratified random sample of 120 individuals selected to ensure comparable representation across gender, age, and education levels. Data collection instruments include audio-recorded conversational transcripts, video-recorded interaction sessions, and structured questionnaire surveys, with instrument validity established through expert review and pilot testing, and reliability verified via Cronbach’s alpha coefficients exceeding 0.80. By integrating linguistic, social, and cognitive dimensions, the proposed model offers a multidimensional perspective on bilingual code-switching that surpasses existing isolated theories. The study contributes to knowledge by operationalizing a systematic approach that accounts for contextual variability and multidimensional motivations underlying code-switching, filling a notable gap in current linguistic and sociolinguistic literature. It concludes that effective analysis of code-switching necessitates a nuanced interplay of syntactic, pragmatic, and sociocultural factors, and recommends that future research extend the framework to include cross-cultural comparisons and digital communication modalities. Practical implications include informing language policy, intercultural communication training, and bilingual education programs. Overall, the findings affirm that a comprehensive, theoretically grounded framework is essential for advancing the understanding of bilingual discourse dynamics, and highlight the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in capturing the multifaceted nature of code-switching behavior in contemporary sociolinguistic contexts.
