Digital library literacy has become crucial for graduate research, given the accelerated shift to online scholarly resources and metadata-rich discovery systems, yet many graduate programs underutilize these tools, resulting in suboptimal research competencies. This study investigates how structured digital library literacy training influences graduate students’ research competencies, addressing the persistent gap between available library services and graduate researchers’ effective use of digital resources. The aim is to determine whether targeted training enhances information-seeking strategies, source evaluation, data management, and scholarly communication, and to identify demographic and disciplinary variations in outcomes. Specific objectives are (1) to assess baseline digital library skills and research competencies among enrolled graduate students; (2) to implement a 6-week digital library literacy program focusing on advanced search techniques, metadata awareness, citation management, and research data stewardship; (3) to evaluate post-training changes in competencies using a mixed-methods approach; (4) to examine the relationship between training exposure and research performance indicators such as literature review quality and bibliometric engagement; and (5) to offer evidence-based recommendations for integrating digital library training into graduate curricula. The study adopts a quasi-experimental, pretest–posttest design with a concurrent mixed-methods strand. The population comprises 1,200 graduate students across three faculties at a large public research university.
