Special libraries play a crucial role in supporting research, information dissemination, and knowledge management in various sectors such as academic institutions, government agencies, and corporate organizations. However, the challenges faced in acquiring library materials and services to meet the diverse needs of users in Nigeria pose significant obstacles to the effective functioning of these specialized libraries. This research aims to investigate the challenges encountered by special libraries in Nigeria in acquiring library materials and services to cater to the needs of users. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather data from special libraries across different sectors in Nigeria. The research will focus on identifying the specific challenges faced by special libraries in acquiring both physical and electronic library materials, including books, journals, databases, and other resources. Additionally, the study will explore the difficulties encountered in providing library services such as interlibrary loan, document delivery, and user training programs. Several factors contribute to the challenges of acquisition faced by special libraries in Nigeria, including limited funding, inadequate infrastructure, inefficient procurement processes, and lack of skilled personnel. These issues often result in delays in acquiring essential library materials, outdated collections, and inability to provide timely and relevant information services to users. Furthermore, the rapid growth of digital resources and the need to comply with copyright regulations add complexity to the acquisition process for special libraries. By identifying and analyzing the challenges of acquisition faced by special libraries in Nigeria, this research aims to provide valuable insights that can inform policy decisions and strategic initiatives to improve the effectiveness of library services in the country. The findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on library management and offer practical recommendations for enhancing the acquisition processes in special libraries. Ultimately, addressing these challenges will help special libraries in Nigeria better meet the information needs of their users and fulfill their vital role in supporting research and knowledge dissemination in various sectors.
