Petty traders play a crucial role in the economy of many developing countries, providing essential goods and services to local communities. However, these traders face significant challenges in accessing information that could help them improve their businesses. This study aims to investigate the information needs of petty traders and explore how these needs can be effectively addressed. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining surveys and interviews to gather data from petty traders in urban markets. The survey will focus on identifying the specific types of information that traders require to enhance their businesses, such as market prices, customer preferences, and business management strategies. Interviews will provide an in-depth understanding of the challenges petty traders face in accessing and utilizing information. Findings from the study will contribute to a better understanding of the information needs of petty traders and inform the development of targeted interventions to support their businesses. By identifying the gaps in information access and utilization, policymakers and organizations can design tailored solutions to empower petty traders and improve their livelihoods. Additionally, the study will shed light on the role of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in meeting the information needs of petty traders, exploring how mobile phones and internet connectivity can be leveraged to provide relevant and timely information. Overall, this research aims to highlight the importance of addressing the information needs of petty traders to enhance their businesses and contribute to economic development at the grassroots level. By bridging the information gap, petty traders can make more informed decisions, expand their customer base, and increase their profitability. Ultimately, empowering petty traders with the right information can lead to poverty reduction, increased entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic growth in developing countries.
