The abstract is as follows This research project aims to investigate the challenges of collection development in Nigeria public libraries. Collection development is a critical aspect of library management that involves the acquisition, organization, and maintenance of library materials to meet the information needs of users. In the context of Nigeria, public libraries play a vital role in providing access to information and knowledge to a diverse population. However, these libraries face various challenges in developing and maintaining their collections effectively. The study will employ a mixed-methods research design to explore the challenges of collection development in Nigeria public libraries. Data will be collected through surveys, interviews, and document analysis from librarians, library users, and library stakeholders. The research will focus on identifying the key challenges faced by public libraries in acquiring and managing their collections, including budget constraints, limited resources, inadequate infrastructure, and lack of trained personnel. The findings of this study will contribute to a better understanding of the challenges of collection development in Nigeria public libraries and provide insights into potential solutions to address these challenges.
