This thesis investigates the role of soft power in shaping foreign policy decisions. Soft power, a concept introduced by Joseph Nye, refers to the ability to influence others through attraction and persuasion rather than coercion. The study aims to explore how soft power impacts the formulation and implementation of foreign policies by states. By examining various case studies and theoretical frameworks, this research seeks to provide a comprehensive analysis of the significance of soft power in contemporary international relations. The thesis begins with an introduction that outlines the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, and structure of the thesis. It also defines key terms essential for understanding the subsequent chapters. The literature review in Chapter Two delves into ten key works that have contributed to the understanding of soft power and its implications for foreign policy. Chapter Three focuses on research methodology, detailing the research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, and data analysis procedures employed in this study. It also discusses ethical considerations and limitations that may have influenced the research process. Chapter Four presents a detailed discussion of the findings, drawing connections between soft power strategies and foreign policy outcomes. The analysis considers the effectiveness of soft power tools such as culture, diplomacy, and public diplomacy in achieving foreign policy objectives.
