Abstract
Online fraud has become a prevalent issue in the hospitality industry, particularly in the context of reservations. This study aims to explore the impact of online fraud committed in the course of making reservations on the hospitality sector. The research will investigate the various forms of online fraud that occur in reservations, such as credit card fraud, identity theft, and false bookings. The study will also examine the consequences of online fraud on both customers and hospitality businesses. For customers, falling victim to online fraud can lead to financial losses, identity theft, and a loss of trust in online reservation systems. On the other hand, for hospitality businesses, online fraud can result in revenue loss, damage to reputation, and increased security expenses. Moreover, the research will analyze the measures currently in place to prevent and address online fraud in hospitality reservations. This will involve an assessment of the effectiveness of security protocols, encryption technologies, and fraud detection systems utilized by hotels, booking platforms, and payment gateways. Furthermore, the study will explore the role of regulations and industry standards in combating online fraud in the hospitality sector. By examining legal frameworks, industry guidelines, and best practices, the research aims to identify gaps in the existing system and propose recommendations for enhancing fraud prevention measures. The findings of this study are expected to provide valuable insights for hospitality businesses, online booking platforms, payment processors, and regulatory authorities. By understanding the impact of online fraud on reservations, stakeholders can develop strategies to mitigate risks, protect customers, and safeguard the integrity of the hospitality sector. Overall, this research contributes to the growing body of literature on online fraud in the hospitality industry and underscores the importance of addressing this issue to ensure the sustainability and growth of the sector. Through a comprehensive analysis of the impact, consequences, prevention measures, and regulatory aspects of online fraud in reservations, this study aims to inform decision-makers and stakeholders on effective strategies to combat fraud and enhance security in the hospitality sector.
