Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Intermittent fasting has gained popularity in recent years as a weight loss strategy with potential metabolic health benefits. This research project aims to investigate the effects of intermittent fasting on weight loss and metabolic health in obese individuals. The study design involves a randomized controlled trial with a sample size of 100 obese participants. Participants will be divided into two groups an intermittent fasting group and a control group following a standard calorie-restricted diet. The first phase of the study will focus on assessing baseline measurements including body weight, body composition, blood pressure, blood glucose levels, and lipid profile. The intermittent fasting group will then follow a specific fasting protocol, such as the 16/8 method, while the control group will adhere to a traditional calorie-restricted diet for a period of 12 weeks. Throughout the intervention period, participants will be monitored closely, and regular assessments of weight, body composition, and metabolic parameters will be conducted. Additionally, dietary intake and physical activity levels will be recorded to evaluate adherence and potential confounding factors. The results of this study will provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of intermittent fasting as a weight loss strategy and its impact on metabolic health markers in obese individuals. Findings from this research have the potential to contribute to evidence-based recommendations for weight management and the prevention of obesity-related metabolic disorders.

Thesis Overview

The research project titled "Effects of Intermittent Fasting on Weight Loss and Metabolic Health in Obese Individuals" aims to investigate the impact of intermittent fasting on weight loss and metabolic health specifically in obese individuals. This study is motivated by the increasing prevalence of obesity worldwide and the potential benefits that intermittent fasting may offer in managing weight and improving metabolic markers. Obesity is a major public health concern associated with various health complications, including cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. Intermittent fasting, which involves cycling between periods of eating and fasting, has gained attention for its potential effects on weight management and metabolic health. By restricting the timing of food intake, intermittent fasting may help individuals achieve weight loss and improve metabolic parameters such as insulin sensitivity, blood glucose levels, and lipid profiles. The research will involve a comprehensive review of existing literature on intermittent fasting, obesity, weight loss, and metabolic health to establish the current understanding of these topics. This review will form the basis for developing a research methodology that includes recruitment criteria, intervention protocols, data collection methods, and outcome measures. Obese individuals will be recruited for the study and divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group will undergo a specific intermittent fasting regimen, while the control group will maintain their usual dietary habits. Both groups will be monitored over a defined period to assess changes in weight, body composition, metabolic markers, and other relevant parameters. Data analysis will be conducted to compare the outcomes between the experimental and control groups, aiming to determine the effects of intermittent fasting on weight loss and metabolic health in obese individuals. The results of this study are expected to provide valuable insights into the potential benefits of intermittent fasting as a dietary intervention for managing obesity and improving metabolic outcomes. Overall, this research project seeks to contribute to the existing knowledge on the role of intermittent fasting in weight management and metabolic health, particularly in the context of obesity. The findings may have implications for developing effective strategies to address the growing burden of obesity and related metabolic disorders, ultimately promoting better health outcomes for individuals struggling with weight issues.
