Thesis Abstract

Abstract
This thesis presents a comprehensive examination of the impact of plant-based diets on cardiovascular health in young adults through a comparative study. The global rise in cardiovascular diseases among young adults has prompted a growing interest in exploring dietary interventions to mitigate these health risks. Plant-based diets, characterized by a high consumption of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds, have been associated with numerous health benefits, including a reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases. However, limited research has focused on the specific effects of plant-based diets on cardiovascular health in the young adult population. The primary objective of this study is to assess and compare the impact of plant-based diets on cardiovascular health indicators, such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and inflammatory markers, among young adults. A mixed-methods approach will be employed, combining quantitative analysis of biomarkers with qualitative data from dietary assessments and lifestyle questionnaires. The literature review provides a comprehensive analysis of existing research on plant-based diets and cardiovascular health, highlighting the potential mechanisms by which plant-based diets may influence cardiovascular outcomes. The review synthesizes evidence from epidemiological studies, clinical trials, and meta-analyses to establish the current understanding of the relationship between plant-based diets and cardiovascular health in young adults. The research methodology section outlines the study design, participant recruitment strategies, data collection methods, and statistical analysis plan. A sample of young adults aged 18-30 years will be recruited from diverse backgrounds to ensure a representative study population. Dietary intake will be assessed using food frequency questionnaires, and cardiovascular health indicators will be measured through clinical assessments and laboratory tests. The findings from this study will be discussed in detail in Chapter Four, where the impact of plant-based diets on cardiovascular health outcomes will be analyzed and compared between study groups. The results will provide valuable insights into the potential benefits of plant-based diets for cardiovascular health in young adults and contribute to the existing literature on dietary interventions for preventing cardiovascular diseases. In conclusion, this thesis contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting the role of plant-based diets in promoting cardiovascular health among young adults. The findings from this study have the potential to inform public health policies and clinical practice guidelines aimed at reducing the burden of cardiovascular diseases in this population. Further research is warranted to explore the long-term effects of plant-based diets on cardiovascular health and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms driving these benefits.
