Thesis Abstract

A society in transition is full of dynamics and so are Oruk Anam people. About five decades and a half after departing from colonial experience, which was characterized by a clash of cultures indigenous and exotic scholars watch with increasing concern, the tendency of African cultural heritage moving towards being eclipsed by modernization or cultural imperialism. In attempt to kept alive elements of the Oruk Anam cultural heritage, it becomes important to reconstruct the Economic History of the people whose past have contributed is no small measure towards our emancipation and development. It is base on these facts on contemporary African situation that this project derives its concerned to drives into the past only because otherwise it would be impossible to understand how the present came into being and what the trends are for the near future. Therefore, the purpose of this work is to examine economic activities of Oruk Anam people during the pre-colonial era.
