Thesis Abstract

Abstract
The prevalence of sedentary lifestyles among young adults is a growing concern due to its negative impact on cardiovascular health. High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) has gained attention as an effective exercise modality to improve cardiovascular fitness in various populations. This study aimed to investigate the impact of HIIT on cardiovascular health in sedentary young adults through a randomized controlled trial. The research design involved recruiting sedentary young adults aged 18-30 years and randomly assigning them to either a HIIT intervention group or a control group. The HIIT intervention consisted of structured high-intensity exercise sessions performed over a set period, while the control group maintained their regular sedentary lifestyle. Pre- and post-intervention assessments were conducted to evaluate changes in cardiovascular health parameters such as resting heart rate, blood pressure, aerobic capacity, and lipid profile. The literature review highlighted the benefits of HIIT in improving cardiovascular health markers, including increased aerobic capacity, reduced blood pressure, and improved lipid profiles. Methodological considerations encompassed participant recruitment, intervention protocol, outcome measurements, and data analysis procedures. The findings from the study demonstrated significant improvements in cardiovascular health parameters in the HIIT intervention group compared to the control group. Specifically, participants in the HIIT group exhibited lower resting heart rates, reduced blood pressure, increased aerobic capacity, and favorable changes in lipid profiles. The discussion of findings delved into the potential mechanisms underlying the cardiovascular adaptations observed with HIIT, including improvements in cardiac function, vascular health, and metabolic pathways. The implications of these findings for promoting cardiovascular health in sedentary young adults were discussed, emphasizing the importance of incorporating HIIT as a time-efficient and effective exercise strategy. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the impact of HIIT on cardiovascular health in sedentary young adults, highlighting the potential of HIIT as a feasible and beneficial intervention to improve cardiovascular fitness in this population. The findings contribute to the existing literature on exercise interventions for cardiovascular health and underscore the importance of promoting physical activity among sedentary individuals to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Further research is warranted to explore the long-term effects of HIIT on cardiovascular health outcomes and to optimize HIIT protocols for specific populations.
