Thesis Abstract

Abstract
This study investigated the impact of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) on cardiorespiratory fitness in college students. The research aimed to explore the effectiveness of HIIT as a training method to improve cardiovascular and respiratory functions among young adults. The study employed a quantitative research design, utilizing pre- and post-intervention assessments to measure changes in cardiorespiratory fitness levels. A sample of college students was randomly assigned to either a HIIT intervention group or a control group. The HIIT group participated in a structured training program consisting of high-intensity exercise bouts interspersed with brief rest periods, while the control group maintained their regular physical activity routine. The literature review highlighted the growing popularity of HIIT due to its time efficiency and potential benefits for cardiovascular health. Previous studies have shown positive outcomes of HIIT on various health markers, including improvements in aerobic capacity, heart function, and metabolic profiles. However, limited research has focused specifically on the impact of HIIT on cardiorespiratory fitness in college students. The research methodology section outlined the procedures followed in conducting the study, including participant recruitment, intervention protocol, data collection methods, and statistical analysis. Fitness assessments were conducted at baseline and after the intervention period to evaluate changes in cardiorespiratory fitness parameters such as VO2 max, heart rate variability, and breathing efficiency. The results were analyzed using appropriate statistical tests to determine the effectiveness of HIIT in enhancing cardiorespiratory fitness compared to the control group. The findings revealed significant improvements in cardiorespiratory fitness levels among college students who participated in the HIIT program. Increases in VO2 max, decreased resting heart rate, and enhanced respiratory function were observed in the HIIT group compared to the control group. These results support the hypothesis that HIIT can be an effective training method to enhance cardiorespiratory fitness in young adults. In conclusion, this study contributes valuable insights into the potential benefits of HIIT for improving cardiorespiratory fitness in college students. The findings suggest that incorporating HIIT into physical education programs or fitness routines can lead to significant improvements in cardiovascular and respiratory health. Future research could explore the long-term effects of HIIT on overall fitness and health outcomes in young populations. This study underscores the importance of promoting HIIT as a time-efficient and effective training strategy for enhancing cardiorespiratory fitness in college students.
